New Kid On The Block - Meet Our New Audit and Accounts Semi Senior
There's a new kid on the block here at Raffingers. Meet Ano, our new Audit and Accounts Semi Senior! To celebrate this new arrival into the Raffingers team, we thought we'd give our readers an insight into our new team member so that you can learn more about him and discover his plans for the future of Raffingers.
1. What was your job role before joining us?
Before Raffingers, I was working as a Financial Executive at Joe UK, a social media firm created by the founders of UniLad.
2. Talk us through your prior experience?
I started my accounting career in a tax consultancy firm called Capitax Financial Ltd where I predominantly prepared accounts & self-assessment tax returns.
3. What interested you about this role?
I was extremely interested in Audit as it was the accounting sector that I couldn’t get experience in but had always come across, especially working in industry. In order to attain the perspective that auditors come from, I sought a role in Audit.
4. What are you looking forward to doing most in the coming year/s?
I look forward to getting more responsibility within the firm, hopefully to a point where I would be able to lead an audit by myself.
5. Do you have any hobbies outside of work? If so, what are they?
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and playing the piano. I also love watching Manchester United play, well…sometimes!
6. What was your route like into accounts and audit?
I graduated from Uni with a degree in Biomedical Science, but I was set on getting a job in the finance industry. From there, I started my career off as a Finance Officer primarily doing the bookkeeping for each company, until securing an opportunity with Capitax Financial Ltd where I first entered the Accounting Practice world. Since then, my goal has been to attain as much experience as I can within the accounting industry, making a switch to gain experience working at a start-up in industry...and then finally making it to Raffingers.
7. A fun fact about yourself?
I once won a 'longest tongue' competition!
8. What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I am currently reading the first of the ultimate trilogy, ‘The Lord of the Rings; The Fellowship of the Ring’. Being a huge fan of the movies, I started reading the books and have not been disappointed.
9. What’s something you’re proud of?
I am proud of starting the Tamil Society at my university, bringing together and representing a small minority at the International Cultural Evening at the University. Our year was the first time a cultural society without a flag was represented on that platform. The following year, we were the first cultural society to win at our Uni's dance competition!
10. What’s your idea of a perfect work day?
A perfect day would be getting into work 15 minutes earlier, giving me enough time to enjoy my morning coffee.
11. If you could have dinner with 3 celebs dead or alive, who would they be?
- Eminem
I loved his music growing up and his story is inspirational.
- Cristiano Ronaldo
I am a huge United Fan and his work ethic & professionalism are something to admire.
- Jacinda Ardern
She is such an underrated political leader who has managed to do an outstanding job during her term whilst also staying grounded with the people.
12. If you were an animal, what one would you be and why?
The one I think I could relate to is the elephant. There’s something about my ears, I think.
13. What do you hope to bring to the company?
I hope to bring a couple of laughs and smiles whilst completing a couple of decent accounts/audits.
14. How do you see the world of accounts and audits changing?
I think the role of accountancy has already started changing with the advances in technology. I feel that accountants will have more of a managerial/consultancy role in the future, moving away from basic bookkeeping.
